Ag-Gagging in Utah

Another win for the forces wishing to protect animal abuse, as Utah passes the second “ag gag” law in the nation. blogger Erik Marcus reports:

Utahns who take unauthorized video or photos of agricultural operations could face up to a year in jail under a bill signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Gary Herbert, although the bill could face a legal challenge.

The law will face unending scorn and legal challenge until it’s withdrawn, as will be the case with a similar law enacted less than a month ago in Iowa.

I wouldn’t be so hopeful, Erik. Both hunter harassment laws and AETA have come under strong criticism, but they’re still going strong. Never underestimate the power of moneyed industry.
