BOOK REVIEW: Veggie Soup for the Chicken’s Soul : Shameless Visions and Prayers for World Peace, Inner Peace, and Animal Liberation

Veggie Soup for the Chicken's Soul : Shameless Visions and Prayers for World Peace, Inner Peace, and Animal Liberation

I really want to like this book. It is so delicate and gentle, it feels mean not to. But honestly, most of it is just too woo-woo for me. It just doesn’t seem to me that meditating for a better world or sending out good vibrations and prayers into the universe will solve anything at all. Visualizing a deity’s hands lifting chickens out of a slaughter truck won’t make the journey any less painful, sad, or final for the birds. I guess it’s hard being a pessimistic skeptic like me.

However, this book may have far more to offer those people not turned off by spiritual content. A section of prayers at the end of the book will be of use to church blessings of the animals and similar ceremonies.
